Up Conway Summit, filmed and edited by Jarod Keel
So I Let Go is a collaborative EP written and recorded with our friend Rachael McElhiney, Reno singer, songwriter and saxophonist. It was released April 4, 2025 on Transylvanian Recordings. Rachael and I put together the initial versions of these songs over the course of two weekends in April and August of 2024. We didn't start with a specific plan as to what to write, but ended up with some very personal and beautiful material about music, family and vans.SONGS
❀ Up Conway Summit
You gotta make it to work
So we drive into the blizzard
Can’t see anything through the snowfall
We slide sideways toward the drop-off
Ripped from the side of the mountain
Oh Poseidon, I can’t stop crying
Up Conway Summit
Where you lost control
We rolled the wrong way
Couldn’t see down below
Dark shade of blue moonlight
Still breathing in the snow
Laying there shivering
I couldn’t move
Couldn’t even send you a message
To tell you what you mean
I know you worry
I know you worry about me
Everywhere that we’ve been
So many places still to go
Despite these hospital ceilings
And ceaseless gray I can see
The pass we pulled through
So I keep on climbing
Keep on climbing
Bryan, I won’t stop trying
Up Conway Summit
Where when you lost control
We rolled the wrong way
Couldn’t see down below
Dark shade of blue moonlight
Still breathing in the snow
❀ Dear Sister
Sheetrock crumbling inside of my chest
A second cup of chamomile
A broken minute of rest
I guess it in runs in the family
Black holes paper the halls in my head
Dear sister stay by my side
Keep trying to fight these fears
But they’ve got too many places to hide
It’s been two entire years
It’s been two entire years
One last dose to clear out the fog
One finger over my eye
If anyone calls
Tell them I’m still lying here waiting to die
It’s been two entire years
I don’t even have any pictures here
You know I try
Dear sister stay by my side
Dear sister stay by my side
It’s been two entire years
But please don’t cry
Dear sister stay by my side
It’s been two entire years
You know I try
Dear sister stay by my side
❀ Picture on Your Guitar
The accordion your friends hadn’t heard
Until you played for them “Happy Birthday”
The keys all glitter like a memorial
A life you filled with so much joy
It couldn’t be contained
Jesus Christ, I let myself forget
Just how you sounded
When you sang to me at night
You played at my party under fluorescent light
And there was a picture on your guitar
The one you took with you to the hospital
When you could barely walk on your own
Despite all the pain you still picked it up
A prayer of sorts well here’s one more
In case you’re listening
Jesus Christ, I let myself forget
(How you sound)
Just how you sounded
When you sang to me at night
You played at my party
Under fluorescent light
There was a picture on your guitar
Of Jesus Christ
I forget how you sound
But you’ll float ‘round my synapses
When I lay down tonight
You played at my party
Under fluorescent light
There was a picture on your guitar
❀ So I Let Go
Handkerchief in his coveralls
He parked you in the garden
By the hydrangea bathing in smog
He was proud
His hair had turned from red to blonde
Your stereo got started
Off Clark Street over the traffic
He cranked it loud
I still feel the sound
A part of me fading from view now
I heard you sing
I watched you break down
I smoked you out
I cried for you
I didn’t have the strength to make it whole
So I let go
Your fabric faded at the folds
Your last window was broken
And we’re fighting again in the front seat
60 through an alley when I asked him to be gentle
You’re full of things that are not worth remembering
But through the pecan trees
I’m gathering speed away from you now
I heard you sing
I watched you break down
I smoked you out
I cried for you
I didn’t have the strength to make it whole
So I let go
So I let go
A part of me fading from view now
I heard you sing
I watched you break down
I smoked you out
I cried for you
I didn’t have the strength to make it whole
So I let go

We recorded the basic tracks over the course of four days in October of 2024 at Zach's, though we spent a good amount of time getting sounds, transposing and relearning the songs, and recording the Conway Summit video with Jarod. We recorded some additional guitars at Jacob's, and I recorded synth, auxillary percussion and background vocals at my house in late October and early November of 2024. We played some shows in support in November 2024 and in April and November of 2025. Jacob sadly left the band in April of 2025 as he had become too tall.
ART
Robbie Landsburg did the album art and layout for the cassette tapes as well as some amazing poster designs for a few of the shows that we did in support of this material.
